Kilombero Sugar Limited (KSCL), in conjunction with Illovo Distillers Tanzania Limited (IDTL), is a member of Illovo Sugar Africa, the continent’s largest sugar producer. As Tanzania’s leading sugar producer, KSCL operates two adjacent agricultural estates and sugar factories, Msolwa and Ruembe, in the Morogoro region. These sites are strategically located on either side of the Great Ruaha River and connected by a low-level bridge.
KSCL annually produces approximately 130,000 tons of sugar from around 1.25 million tons of sugarcane. Our operations are a blend of KSCL-cultivated sugarcane (55%) and that of local growers (45%), who receive ongoing extension support, training, and development from the company. Our successful “route to market” model allows KSCL to enjoy strong local consumer support for its direct consumption brown sugar, sold under the popular ‘Bwana Sukari’ brand.
