The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and premier public university in Tanzania. Situated 13 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill (Mlimani), it was established on October 25th, 1961, as the University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), affiliated with the University of London. Initially housed in the TANU premises on Lumumba Street, it moved to its current location in 1964. Starting with a single Faculty of Law and 13 students, UDSM became a constituent college of the University of East Africa in 1963, and a fully-fledged university on July 1st, 1970. UDSM has inaugurated its Vision 2061, a blueprint guiding its future development. The University is an equal opportunity employer.
